Vader: The art of war

27/08/07  ||  theProphet

It’s been said over and over again, but seriously, why the fuck is death metal so big in Poland? Honestly, it’s like the only thing the country is good at, apart from maybe figureskating or gymnastics, and that gay shit. And I don’t even think they’re particularly good at that. Anyway, if Vader had been around during the late thirties, there would never have been a World War II.

Blitzkrieg my ass…

This brings us to their splendid 2005 effort, “The Art of War” (which is named after a book by some Chinese dude), and man is this art. This is probably the best consecutive 15 minutes ever made in music. Everything about this is just absolutely ace, starting with a great, orchestral intro with builds up to the opening track “This Is the War” without anybody noticing. It continues with the amazing “Lead Us!!!” followed by a nice instrumental. And when you just think it can’t get any better, BAM!!! “What Colour Is Your Blood?” hits you straight in the face and runs you over like a battle tank with a giant boxing glove at the end of its cannon, probably the catchiest death metal tune this side of Bolt Thrower. The album is rounded off nicely with the “calmer” (really not) “Death In Silence”.

The songwriting of this album is just badass, every single riff is perfect and flows perfect into the next one. Vader’s solos are as always amazing and despite our biggest doubts, new drummer Daray makes a very good job replacing the deceased “Docent” (to whom the album is dedicated and the band surely couldn’t have honored him in a better way). Peter is also at the top of his game with the vocals and delivers with utmost pathos and intensity.

Everybody who is into death metal must own this album, it’s written in fucking stone. I won’t take any excuses for the extreme failure of not having this album in your collection. Simple as that. Right, now I’m off to masturbate to the also contained video for “This Is the War”. Cheers!

9 anti-tank shells put of 10. I really can’t give an album with a playing time just slightly above 15 minutes a full score, but it is really that good.
